Photograph from the Judy Bond boycott, 1962. This New York manufacturer of women's blouses locked out its workers and shifted production to a plant in Brewton, Alabama. The ILGWU waged a fierce campaign, which included the distribution of 3 million "Don't Buy Judy Bond" shopping bags. The efforts did not stem the tide of runaway shops, first to so called "right to work" states in the South, and later, abroad.
